For the Long Haul: Juceefroot A divalicious lady graces our humble blog this article! She shares how she stumbled across the natural world and fell in love! Check out her below and on her blog (Spoiled!). Are you natural or transitioning? Transitioning from relaxed. What is your hair type? 4 a/b What made you decide to transition and why long-term? First off, I am a college student who wasn't always able to go home for my next relaxer. I've always toyed around with the idea of going natural but never actually had the courage to do it. I had began to talk to some of my relaxed friends about it. They all looked at me like I was crazy except one who said that her stylist told her that she'd have to cut all her hair off to go natural. I was like, "no. that is not me." I asked her if it would work if i just stopped getting relaxers and got a texturizer instead. No matter who I asked, they all said the same thing. So I gave up on the idea. I went home that weekend... but my grandpa was sick and I truly didn't have the time to get a relaxer. So I kept washing and straightening my hair... but I was so CURIOUS about the little "bumps" of hair that i felt growing out of my scalp, i decided to do some research on natural hair. That's when i discovered curly nikki. lol! I was in awe. I decided then and there that I was through with relaxers. Click "Read More" to see more pics and learn more about her transition!

Yes! ........12 months Post-relaxer Yes, you read that right! It's been 12 months since my last relaxer.
1 year into my transition! And I'm still having fun! To be honest, once I was past 6 months, the time just flew by! So my pearls of wisdom so far in my transition:
Laters! November Hair Update! So this month, I was playing around with my hair, after having hidden it for 2 months under half-wigs (Polly by Outre is the bomb! - see above!). I wanted a style where my hair would not be so hidden for so long. Again, I got onto Youtube for inspiration and it did not disappoint!
I found a tutorial for an updo involving kinky twists by a natural after my heart: Torridiana777. Here's a link to the video. I liked the big sizes of the twists and the cool parting in the front so I jumped in! Twists finished. I checked out youtube again for more styles to do with kinky twists. Hairmania3000 showed a few already. Finally, I started thinking outside the box. To truly know how to style updos in a kinky twist or braided style, why not go to someone who styles hair in such sections and has done so for years.......a loc'd lady by the name of Bronzegoddess01 to show the way! Her styles are wonderful and the rest of her channel is uplifting! Here's a link to her channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/BronzeGoddess01 Current regimen I'm currently moisturizing and sealing twice daily with my moisture spritzes (VO5 and aloe vera juice). I choose a different updo every few days (Youtube inspired, of course) and I did a few youtube tutorials of my own to show the style on kinky twists! I just pray I can find my camera's memory chip (ooops, I dropped it yesterday and can't find it in my room. I may have to move my bed...lol!) Happy hair journey, ladies! I'll be uploading pics of the style onto the blog and the styles page...once I find my camera card, by God's grace (pray for me!). For the Long Haul: Alaysia Well, here it is! The long awaited series: For the Long Haul! If you're transitioning or even only just considering it, look no futher for some inspiration and sage advice...from fellow transitioners and naturals. To kickstart this is a lovely, fellow-hairlista Alaysia! Are you natural or transitioning, and what is your hair type?
Transitioning from relaxed. I believe I am 4b/c. What made you decide to transition and why long-term? I decided to transition because I realized that relaxed hair isn't my thing. I prefer my hair when it has some texture to it. I chose a long time transition because I don't think I'd be able to handle the BC as of yet. I plan on transitioning for 2 or a little more years. Do you have a goal length for ending your transition? I hope to at least be full NL or SL at the end of my transition Any naturals who inspired you during your transition? Nikkimae2003, kimmaytube, longhairdontcare2011, moptopmaven, and prettydimples01 on youtube Click "Read More" for more fab pictures and to transitioning tips! In this for the Long Haul: transitioners' stories! So far, I'm enjoying adding a few articles to this blog! I want to keep the theme of transitioning to natural hair running throughout. I still do believe that one can have healthy, long relaxed hair but I've personally decided to get a nice look at my natural tresses. Relaxers have had their say for the past 20 years, (so long?) and as I learnt to take care of my hair, I fell more in love with bigger hair.
My plans for developing this blog further so far are:
I hope you ladies will check this blog out regularly and I hope you like this idea. Thanks for reading! I've seen this done by two other Youtube naturals: Jaybyy04 and Chisellecouture and I wanted to give it a go!
It is pretty simple to do and I love the results. Even got complimented in church! I used cantu shea butter leave-in and the basic steps are:
I am keeping this in for the week. I might change up how I pull up the back (french twist, bun, claw clip, pin curls....) but we'll see! Hope you enjoy it and will give it a try! Definitely a transition style! Click "Read More" for more pictures and a video of how I did this! Transition Update: 6 months post I'm now Six months and three weeks post-relaxer and loving it! Since I'm mostly texlaxed with some relaxed ends, my hair can hold some natural styles.
I've taken down my crochet braids today (after only 2 weeks) but I'm going to deep condition with steam and then try out my new leave-ins. And a lovely fellow Hairlista sent me a tub of Cantu Shea butter - I am so excited! I can't wait to try it with a twisted updo style! I'll try to make a video to show the styles I decide on! Update | Crochet braids are back! This is my current protective style. I plan to keep this in for the next 3-4 weeks. One week down, three to go! Why is this a great protective style?
